Offerings to the Sea

oil on canvas
Bali, Indonesia
Inspired by the daily offerings made by the Balinese people, this painting brings a moment of peace to the canvas. A fisherman’s platform of bound driftwood casts shadows on the sand under the soft light, offering the viewer a fixed point between the intersecting lines on which to focus. The rising tide destroys the structure and it is rebuilt; a perpetual act of devotion and acceptance of life’s transient nature.
